I attended the FCPUG Supermeet in Las Vegas last night, where Apple gave a "sneak peek" of the upcoming new version of Final Cut Pro, dubbed "FCP X". It was a standing-room only crowd of about 2,000 people and seemed to be very well received. Shipping in June via the App Store for $299.
No mention of Motion or the rest of the suite, so we'll have to wait and see.
For a blow-by-blow of the presentation and a good run-down of features, see Apple Insider.
For a summary of many of the new features, see fcp.co.
And here are some official Apple images from the Loop.

Thanks for the insight Mark. Wow, a big architectural update. Embedding Sound and Color natively will certainly save the round tripping plus being able to do things like re-time audio natively within FCP will be much easier. I know Apple is converging a lot of the consumer features into their pro products (eg Aperture 3). I hope it doesn't compromise capabilities but good news is there seems to be some serious work at the back-end which should also speed things up eg dynamic rendering. Looks good. I just hope they aren't going to drop Motion.
Mark:
I also saw the SuperMeet presentation and was left with far more questions than answers.
Biggest questions were:
1. What happens to all the other great Studio apps now? i've invested a great many hours and days of learning - mostly from you and your Ripple Training DVD and MacStudio generous offerings. If the Studio goes away with no 32bit to 64 bit. Did not get the feel that the Studio was being worked on - just a whole new FCPX. Tried to get to Rudy U afterwards to ask questions, but he beelined out of the room - probably was either not allowed or unable to answer questions that he knew he would be barraged with.
2. Why did they leave all the 3rd party plugin deveolopers and trainers who are very much responsible for the success of FCP/Studio's growth in the dark... that puts this whole new saga so far behind now. (PS - I know it must have felt strange doing NAB training on programs like FCP and Motion that would not be applicable unless your students stayed with the old 32 bit programs - FCP7 and Motion 4 - and that may be how many of us have to handle this for some time)
Wish you the best of luck with what probably is a scarey change for you - I have thoroughly enjoyed your training and all that you give back to the community. Wished Apple had treated you folks more fairly and kept you in the loop - they owed that to you.
I'm curious what you think, Mark? Is the new FCP X up to your standards? Would you like to see a new Motion? I must say I am pretty excited. I know many people are upset at the interface and workflow- but I for one find myself using iMovie more often than FCP- but then again I'm just creating short projects.
I agree that the presentation raised a lot of questions - good thing they will be answered in June!
