I'm waiting for you to create a reference video that shows exactly what each preset in motion does and how you can use it. This would be something I would pay a lot for.

Paul, could you be more specific when you say "each preset"? That could be just about anything.

Each replicator, each filter, each particle, each particle. For example just briefly go through the list and show what each does and example of real world use. It might be a challenge on some of them. For example, under behavior - parameter, what does logarithmic or quantize mean and how would you use it? This could almost be a 4 dvd collection but would save hours of experimentation. I have your other motion training tutorials and they are awesome and very well organized but it would be nice to have a good reference set showing all the tools.

Ah I see - yes, something to consider, thanks for the suggestion.

Hello Marc and thanx alot for your videos and your book Motion 4 (just finishing the last Lession 30 Minutes ago).
I have 2 more Questions: First how can I create a solide Text in 3D ( Not a flat one)?
and second how can I crate a bounce effect on text? ( f.e. throw text on a object an bounce like a rubber ball and than come to rest).

thx for your support

The Extrude filter will give the text depth (under Stylize) but if you rotate the text or move a camera around it, you'll see that it's a faux 3D effect. Proanimator from Zaxwerks acts as a plugin in Motion and with it you can make "real" 3D text with bevels, lighting, and more.

For the bounce effect you can use the Edge Collision behavior in combination with a Throw behavior, or use keyframes.

Hello Micheal,
Wie Gehts Dir? Gruss von Ohio. I have used the replicator to make 3d objects such as text. You basically stack the text in z space. Replicator- 1 coulum, 1 row and several stacks deep. Here is a video I did using that technique.

Thank you for your quick support. Maybe 3D-text is available in the next Motion(5) this fall.

Yes, the Replicator trick is a good one although there's a big performance impact - but it does get the job done.

Hey Mark,
Sorry to keep this string going but I am considering getting the motion 4 tutorial DVD. I have the motion 3 you did and have been doing projects for the last year or so using motion 4. Is the motion 4 dvd geared toward use of the new features or is it a complete tutorial for someone who never used motion? Also, what graphics card do you recommend to give the best performance out of motion. It can really drive me nuts sometimes.

January 7, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Miller

Paul,
If you have Motion 3FF then Motion 4FF is going to repeat everything in Motion 3FF plus 4 new chapters covering the new features. Since you have M3FF you are entitled to the upgrade price for M4, just include that info if you order from rippletraining.com. All the contents of the M4 products are described in great detail on the Ripple site.

What do you consider the best graphics card to get for motion? Or where is a good place to shop?
2x3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon mac OSX 10.6.6

The ATI Radeon 5870 right now. After that, the 4870.

so that will work on my machine?

April 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Miller

Sorry I don't know exactly the specs for every card, but that's the latest - might check barefeats.com or the ATI site...
