Hi Mark,
Great tutorial.

I've a question -slightly off topic - but it is to do with shapes.

How do I get the free 'shapes', you give for subscribing, into my Motion software. The files don't show up when I look using Motion's File Browser, but they are in a folder on the mac.
I've even tried copying them into the folder where the default shapes are stored, and tried /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Studio/Motion/Library/Shapes folder (and re-starting Motion) but even that doesn't work.
What am I doing wrong?
Cheers
Jeff
ps I'm using Motion 3

Jeff, the shapes work in Motion 4. You can change them to Motion 3 by opening them in TextEdit and changing the "4.0" near the top to "3.0" and then you should see them in the File Browser.

Thanks. That worked a treat.
Thanks again for the free shapes.

Hi Mark,

Sorry for beating an old horse, but I understand I can grab the spiral shape in the file browser in motion, that's no problem for me, it shows up there... but can I install the shape in the motion shapes folder? I've tried but it does not show up when I restart motion.

One way: In Motion, drag it from the File Browser to the Canvas, then drag it from the Layers tab to the Shapes folder in the Library.

Is it possible to turn an 'analyze motion' tracking path into a 'shape' to use as an animation path?

July 30, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDarrell

No but not sure why you'd want to - you can have any object follow the path just by using the tracking behavior - or you could copy-paste the generated keyframes to another layer.
